Update

Dear Home Learner families,

I would like to let you know how much Shannon and I appreciate all your support during this difficult time for all of us.  Thank you to all those who attended the VSB stakeholder meetings to make your voices heard.  Although, the outcome is not what we had hoped for, the school board has a better understanding of who you are.

I would also like families to know that although I will no longer be with the Home Learners program, I will still be at Beaconsfield.  In September, I will be the new Kindergarten/Grade 1 teacher in the regular program.

Thank you again.

Juliana

Field Trip to “Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch”

Mr Hatch pic_1

Axis Theatre Company is thrilled to present our original creation SOMEBODY LOVES YOU, MR. HATCH. Adapted from the book by Eileen Spinelli, this heart-warming puppet play is specially created for anyone who believes a little kindness can create big change.
Mr. Hatch is tall and thin and he does not smile, until one Valentine’s Day, he receives a candy-filled heart with a very special note that says ‘somebody loves you’. Three performers create Mr. Hatch’s world with live music and the transformation of everyday objects into the supporting characters. Come and share in the magic of puppetry and watch as Mr. Hatch’s otherwise ordered existence is turned on its head.

Choir Procedure on Mondays

We have received a number of inquiries regarding whether or not Shannon and Juliana can supervise the children going to choir on Mondays after school.  This is what we will be doing:  we will walk the choir participants to outside the band room where they will be instructed to wait until the choir leader arrives.  The remainder of the class will be walked downstairs to meet their parents and dismissed as usual.  We are making this arrangement because we both have other duties after school on Mondays and any other arrangements could potentially be problematic.

Ice skating at Trout Lake

Ice skating sessions have been booked for both classes at Trout Lake for next week.  The cost is $4.00 per student.  Unfortunately, the allotment cannot be used for this activity.

The Monday/Wednesday class will be going on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.  Parents are asked to bring students to the ice rink at 9:15 am in order to allow time to get organized with skates etc.  We will be walking back to school afterwards.  *We are asking for a few parent volunteers who would be willing to help supervise students on the ice.  Please note that unregistered siblings will not be allowed to go on the ice with the class.

The Tuesday/Thursday class will be going on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.  We will be walking there and back as a class.  No parent volunteers are needed to help on the ice!

Please ensure that you put your child’s name on the sign up sheet on the parent table, fill out the appropriate permission form, and return it with your payment to your teacher’s file.  (Pink forms are for Monday/Wednesday; Blue forms are for Tuesday/Thursday).
