Explore Your Wild Side and Win!

Canadian wildlife artist Robert Bateman is best known for his amazing, lifelike paintings that capture the heart and soul of Canada’s wilderness, but beyond his artistic talent he is also a strong and caring proponent of connecting Canadian youth with nature. Through the Robert Bateman Get to Know Contest, Bateman has facilitated these connections by encouraging young Canadians to get in touch with their “wild” side through art, writing and photography. The 2009 contest, made possible in part through a $5,000 sponsorship by theCanadian Wildlife Federation, marks a 10-year milestone in Bateman’s legacy for youth.

Open to all school-aged Canadian youth, the 2009 Get to Know Contest is an opportunity for young Canadians to get outside and “get to know their wild neighbours.” In addition to the experience of connecting with wildlife, winners have the opportunity to win amazing prizes, including:

* their artwork appearing on Canada’s first-ever Youth Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp;
* a trip to Parks Canada’s Palisades Stewardship Education Centre in Jasper, Alberta;
* their work published in the nationally distributed 2010 Get to Know Calendar;
* a Panasonic Lumix® digital camera;
* art supplies from Opus;
* and much more!

This year’s contest was launched on Earth Day, April 22nd, with events taking place at various natural history museums and conservation venues across the country. To be considered, entries must be received or postmarked before the contest closing deadline of May 27th, 2009.         *reprinted from CWF Newsletter.

I encourage everyone to create works of art, photography or writing and to enter the contest!

Also, there is a daily “Get to Know Challenge” posted which you can enter for a chance to win a daily prize.  The Get To Know website also includes answers to nature and wildlife questions sent in by kids, a kids’ blog, and cool facts and information on events that are being held across the country.
