What’s Happening?

Yesterday’s field trip to Lynn Canyon was such a good time!  The weather could not have been more suited to a fall walk and forest exploration and the critters were out in abundance for our students to inspect and learn about!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This Thursday we have our annual Pumpkin Patch field trip to Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House.  I always enjoy this trip – Frog Hollow does a really good job of making the visit fun and eventful for the children – with some storytelling, crafts and, of course, the highlight – each child chosing a pumpkin to take home.
As Frog Hollow has us all on a tight schedule – they book new intakes every 40 minutes – please be sure to be there for our 9:20 a.m. start.  We will be outside the front entrance waiting for families and children to arrive and gather.  For anyone that needs to drop their child off early that morning, Juliana and I will be walking from the school to Frog Hollow – leaving Garibaldi at 8:50 a.m.
Remember the orange UNICEF box we used to carry with us for Trick or Treating?
Well, the boxes no longer exist, but the tradition of kids helping kids carries on today! This year students across Canada can give children all around the world the chance to go to school so they can survive challenges and gain lifelong opportunities.  Unicef envelopes have been placed in each of your folders.  Children are asked to approach friends and family only to obtain donations for Unicef.  Please bring the envelopes and donations back after Hallowe’en.  This year Unicef is focusing on helping children in 2/3 world countries to go to school and to supply basics for schooling.
Next week:
The Beautiful Bats field trip with the Stanley Park Ecology Society is next Thursday, October 27th at 10:00 a.m.  The field trip forms will be in your files today.  As the Society has a group size limit, please sign your child up on the sheet on the table upstairs.  Also, they ask us to not bring umbrellas if it is raining – hope everyone has hoods on their jackets!
Upcoming:
  • Our Tues/Thurs students participate in the school choir with Mr. DeLong.  They have been working on two lovely songs about peace for our Remembrance Day assembly, Nov. 10th.  Time and details to follow.
  • We have a field trip to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on November 17th.
  • Portfolio week is November 18th to 24th.  Sign up sheets will be in folders in the next couple of weeks.
