Field Trips

Fieldtrips are an important component of the Home Learners Program and enhance learning that is happening at Beaconsfield.  Fieldtrip forms and a signup sheet will be placed on the parent table as early as possible ahead of the fieldtrip.  Parents are responsible for signing up their children on a first come first served basis.  Please do not email your teachers to ask them to put your name on the list!  Spaces are usually reserved for registered students and one accompanying parent (optional), but extra tickets may be available for siblings on some fieldtrips.  Families are responsible for transporting their children to and from the fieldtrip.  The allotment can be used to pay for fieldtrips.

The Adventures of Robin Hood

A fieldtrip is booked to Carousel Theatre’s presentation of The Adventures of Robin Hood on Thursday, April 9.  The sign up sheet and consent forms are on the parent table.

The Adventures of Robin Hood

Somewhere near you there is a band of brothers fighting for justice. Seeking to rid the land of evil and return hope to the poorly treated. Armed with whatever comes their way, nothing is as it seems in this Sherwood Forrest, but one thing is for sure, no rogue is safe!

Performed by two actors, the play is a clever and quirky take on the well-known legend, set in less of a Sherwood Forest and more of a supermarket store room, an everyday place where a tale can be told and objects can be reinvented. Playful, imaginative and fast paced, all the characters are there, in one way or another, along with a host of cardboard boxes, shopping carts and food.

Shakespearean Rhapsody

Shakespearean-Rhapsody-Slider1

The sign up list and consent forms for Carousel Theatre’s production of Shakespearean Rhapsody is on the parent table.  This show is suitable for ages 3 years and up.

A magical introduction to Shakespeare’s plays. The tales of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest and Romeo and Juliet are introduced to young audiences via a troupe of players. Shakespeare’s stories and the rhyming couplets of Lois Burdett (Author of the Shakespeare Can Be Fun series of books) are woven together in an accessible, high energy romp complete with fairies, music and a whole lot of action!

Running Time: 60 minutes with no intermission

Fieldtrip to James and the Giant Peach

James-and-the-Giant-Peach-Web-Slider

From Tony-nominated songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul comes a new, heartwarming musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic. When young James Trotter is shipped off to live with his wretched aunts, he longs for a real family and a new home. All seems lost until he discovers a magical giant peach inhabited by fantastical creatures. Together with Grasshopper, Ladybug, Centipede, Spider and Earthworm, James embarks on an extraordinary adventure, sailing across the sea to distant lands.

Audience Advisory: James’ parents are eaten by a rhinoceros (puppet) at the London Zoo at the beginning of this play. We recommend you discuss this with your children prior to attending the performance.

Running Time: 90 minutes (plus a 15 minute intermission for public performances).

This performance is recommended for children 6+, but we think that most of our K-2 students will be able to enjoy it.

Consent forms and sign up sheets are on the parent table.  If your child is interested in attending, please fill out the forms and return to your teacher’s file by Dec. 5.
